How Many Cleaning Can You Do A Day?

Question

How Many Cleaning Can You Do A Day?(Flip Over to Reveal Answer)

Answer

Depends on how hard you want to work. This will be different for everyone.

Fact:

Cleaning grills can feel like a lot of work at times. It will be up to you how many grills you can realistically clean each day. Factors like size of grill, how dirty it is, drive time all play a factor in how many you can realistically clean.

When I was deciding if I wanted to do this business I called other cleaners and asked them this question. I had one cleaner tell me he was happy only doing 2 cleanings a day and a few others tell me they could do 5 cleanings a day.

Now, I don’t know how well these guys cleaned the grills or if they chose to not clean something like the underside of the lid but I can tell you 5 grills a day is a lot of cleaning for one person especially if it’s a thorough cleaning.

If 5 grills sounds like a lot, it is. I honestly can’t see doing 5 grills a day by yourself. If you have a worker with you, that’s still a lot of work to do in one day.

Let’s put this into perspective:

  • A thorough, deep grill cleaning will take one person no less than 1-1/2 hrs but up to 3-4 hrs depending on how big and dirty the grill is. Most grills on average take 2 to 2-1/2 hrs to clean. If you take 2 hrs a cleaning, 5 grills will take you 10 hrs a day just to clean them – then you have to account for travel time, breaks, chit-chat with the customer and then set-up and tear down time – you could easily see a 14+ hr day! I don’t know about you but that is a long day cleaning grills.
  • How could you clean 5 grills in a day? Don’t clean the underside of the lid; this easily adds at least a half hour to an hour to the cleaning. You just knocked off up to 2-1/2 hrs of your day making it a little more realistic.
  • What you should realistically plan and budget for is 2-3 grills a day. To thoroughly deep clean a grill, 2 grills is definitely achievable in a day leaving you time to enjoy the afternoon and evening with your family. Cleaning 3 grills a day is achievable as well but depending on how big and dirty they are it can also be a long day when you add in travel time, etc.
  • If you choose to add an employee or helper you can easily clean three grills a day, maybe four if you don’t have a lot of travel and work effectively and efficiently.

Why I Recommend Cleaning The Underside Of The Lid Every Time?

Different manufacturers use different types of metal for the underside of the lid. Depending on the type of metal used, there are times we simply cannot guarantee we can get all the burnt black out of the metal. When speaking to a customer about what they can expect with a cleaning I always qualify that we will clean the underside of the lid but we can’t guarantee that we can get all the black out of the metal. It will be clean and you will see the difference but it is very difficult to get 100% clean.

Depending on the size of the lid and type of heat shield used it can easily add an additional ½ hour to hour to the cleaning time. The reason why some cleaners don’t clean the underside of the lid is because this is where they can save time and money. They will tell you that it will just turn black after the first use so why bother? The reality is it is just too tough for them to clean and they don’t want to spend the additional time doing it.

Yes, you’re lid will turn black again over time but it will not do so after the first use.

To be considered a professional grill cleaner you need to present a professional product. In my opinion, cleaning the underside of the lid is part of the professional product you are presenting. If your competitor doesn’t clean the underside of the lid and you do, you’re going to be perceived as the more professional cleaner and you can use this in your advertising as what sets you apart from the competition.
